Making things is popular amongst all ages and children are as keen to have a go at as many crafts as us adults! I know from my ten year old son who is totally obsessed with brick building but also enjoys having a go on my sewing machine.
The Kids Sewing Workshops are aimed at ages 8-12, boys and girls alike. They will mainly run either on a Saturday morning or during the school holidays. Check Facebook for up-to-date information on up and coming classes.
As I am a qualified textiles teacher I am CRB checked but an adult will need to accompany the child to the sewing class.
At the start, we will have a go at using the sewing machine together and you will come away with new skills that you can use to make simple projects. I will assess your skill level at the first class and then I will guide you as to suitable projects to start off with. For the older children who want to challenge their creativity and skills further then I can guide them through the basics of dressmaking.
What will you need to bring?
Lots of enthusiasm obviously!!! All materials and equipment are supplied by Candlewick Designs and are included in the price of the class. If you can bring your own machine, even better, but I will supply one if required. A drink and biscuits will be offered, but you are welcome to provide your own snack should you wish or if your child has a food allergy.
Sewing is a great skill to learn, it is fun and creative but also tackles areas such as maths and problem solving....but in a fun way!!! See where your creativity can take you.
